Nick Work – 200 Wickets
Congratulations Nick Work , 200 wickets for the Coromandel Valley Ramblers!
Nick reached this milestone on the weekend claiming 2/23 from 8 overs in the A Grade.
Nick has now played 230 games and claimed 200 wickets @ 21.9. He joined the club in the year 2000, commencing in the D Grade. At 15 years old he would open the bowling with fast/medium out swing for the D Grade and in his second season would claim the D bowling trophy with 23 wickets and would also finish runner-up in the batting trophy that year behind club legend Steve Davenport. These performances would lead to him being named the clubs ‘Most Promising Junior’ that year.
The following year would see him rise the Ramblers ranks and become a regular in the B Grade, opening the bowling again and winning the bowling trophy that year as well. A productive start to the 2002/03 season with best bowling figures of 7/47 would see Nick debut in the A Grade at 16 years old. Over the next few seasons becoming a regular wicket taker in the A Grade and B Grade teams.
With the addition of other pace bowling stocks to the A Grade over the past decade, opportunities with the ball were limited. As a result of this and the absence of a wrist spinner in the A Grade, Nick decided to take up leg spin bowling 4 years ago to increase his opportunities with the ball. He has found this to be quite fruitful, having now claimed an amazing 52 of his 200 wickets with leg spin at an average of 11.
