ROUND RECAP: 6 Ramblers wins this weekend! A captain’s knock in the A’s, stellar bowling in our C & E’s and a couple of big Junior wins!

A GRADE: The Ramblers started day 2 at 1/42 with 92 runs left to chase down for victory. In a solid batting display the boys got the job done in the 42nd over of the day, finishing 3/135 (Happy Valley – 133). After the loss of an early wicket, Baird and Saunders would put on a 59 run stand before Baird was unluckily caught down the leg side. The last 32 runs coming without the loss of another wicket with Kanck and Saunders seeing the innings out.Best with the bat:F. Saunders – 55*J. Rosman – 29J. Baird – 16B. Kanck – 13*An extremely pleasing day of cricket with each batsman displaying great application when given their opportunity. The lads will travel to Cove next week and look to continue the strong start to the season. #uptheRamblers

B GRADE: Chasing 182 we believed we were in with a chance. JC (24) and Emil (15) did well to wear down the opening bowlers. Our middle order failed to fire with Ferris the only other batter to reach double figures (16). Unfortunately this was a missed opportunity for 6 points.

C GRADE: Our opening bowlers Rochow and Morey bowled tightly and had Pt Noarlunga in trouble early at 3 for 18 after 8 overs. We continued to apply pressure in the field and with the ball, with all five bowlers capturing wickets in the first innings. Our bowling remained tight throughout the day, with a total of 20 maidens from 58 overs! A tremendous team bowling performance. Morey bowled 9 consecutive overs and was outstanding, taking 3 for 23 & Rochow 2 for 21. With Port Noarlunga all out for 69 in the 33rd over, we decided to enforce the follow on. With 25 overs to bowl, Pt Noarlunga were 6 for 21 in the 15th, before they dug in for the next 10. Early wickets again to Morey & Rochow gave us an opportunity but ultimately fell just short with Pt Noarlunga 7 for 39 after 25. Morey & Rochow were outstanding, with Morey taking 7 for the game, including 4 for 6 in the second innings and Rochow 5 for the game. Our fielding was a highlight, in a faultless display, we held all of our catches and let nothing through on the ground. Spano taking four sharp catches in the gully, two from Smith at slip, a spectacular tumbling catch from Vale, two sharp run outs from Strauss and Crofty maintaining the high standard behind the stumps.A really pleasing all round team performance with our standard set for the remainder of the season.

D GRADE: Having only 16runs before Morphett Vale overtakes our score, and was achieved in the first 3overs of the day. Our opponents batted on for another 11overs with a total of 5/199 and put us back in to bat. Opening with Gringo and Ashley Bates we batted for 10overs without loss. Gringo was out at 1/24 followed by Andrew Goudie (10runs) and Brian Bates who was a little unlucky with a LBW decision (24runs). Jordan Rowley came in to partner up with Ashley until Morphett Vale lost interest and called it a day at 3/82. Well batted by Ashley who batted for 42overs completing exactly what was asked of him. Ramblers lose first innings only.

E GRADE: Great day for the young development squad last Saturday. Jones and Hamish Rees bowled very tight opening spells with Rees making the break through early. Two experienced campaigners carried Happy Valley through until after drinks until the sustained pressure of bowlers and fielder’s forced the error with Juice caught smartly by Hunter off Sadler. The Skipper followed quickly giving young leg spinner Jack Sullivan his first wicket for the Ramblers and the first of three on the day. We would wrap up the game before the second drinks break through a sensational bowling partnership between Michael Sadler and Jack Sullivan. Michel took 4/18 and Sullivan 3/18. Nash was unlucky having a catch put down but also kept the pressure on when it was his turn.A great first up win for the Ramblers and now we look forward to continuing our improvement at practice before our first home game of the season at Hawthorndene Primary School located right next to sponsors G D Wholesale Fruit and Vege Supplies. Go Ramblers

Under 16’s: Our goal today was to value our wicket, rotate the strike and punish the loose ball which should see us chase down Coro’s 127 at less than 3 runs an over. We started our run chase well today, improving on our 0/17 from last week to have our openers and no’s 3,4,5 and 7 all retired off 8 overs and ready to come back in.Unfortunately the rest of our middle order and tail end were tied down by an excellent spell from their key strike bowlers and it was left to our returning batsmen to try and finish off the job. We fell 24 runs short on 103 with Luis 19, Josh 17no and Joel 13 the highest scorers. With the game over early, the opposition insisted we bowl another 9 overs to finish the day and suffice to say that our lads held their heads high in the face of an un-sportsman like display from the opposition.Parents be very very proud of your lads today, as they were the winners in my eyes purely by the way they conducted themselves.Player of the game winning the Pizza Pan award with 4/7 and 17 runs was Josh Payne. Thank you to Brian Bates for scoring. Cheers and see you at the cricket. Daz

Under 14’s: After being unable to play last week, the U14’s returned to Seaford for a one day game against Port Noarlunga. After losing the toss, the Ramblers were sent in to bowl with Liam as captain this week. The first wicket fell early through some tidy bowling from Ciaran who ended up with1/4 after his 3 overs. The bowling was much more consistent this week with fewer extras. Gabe, Thomas and Liam all took catches and the best of the bowling was Jacob with 0/1 from 3 overs, with Rohan and Thomas both1/7 from their 3. We did well to restrict Porties for only 30 or so runs from the last 15 overs. The boys were set 95 runs to win and started positively. After the first 3 wickets fell early, the boys batted sensibly with a nice selection of shots. Jacob batted well scoring 18, supported by Charlie (15), Thomas (14) and James (12). The final score Ramblers 6/112 defeating Pt Noarlunga 5/94.

Under 12’s: What a perfect morning for cricket. We hosted Happy Valley Gold at Weymouth. This was a nail biter finish. This week’s captain (Josh S) decided to bowl first. We again bowled a really good line and length. The team as a whole are bowling beautifully. We had Euan, Josh S, Aarnav and Dylan all take 1 Wicket each with Euan also taking 2 really good catches. We were able to keep the opposition to 4/113.The batting is getting stronger and stronger each game. We are building in confidence each week. This week saw Henry, Euan, Bonnie, Dylan, Archie and Aarnav all spending plenty of time in the middle. We were able to get our second win in a row in the second to last over of the game. Great job team’

Under 10’s: Under 10s Coromandel Valley Ramblers 4/99 defeated by ANCA 5/159 at West Beach Primary School. We travelled down to West Beach Primary School to play Adelaide Nepalise. Captain Ben lost the toss and we were sent into bat. Ben making 4 and Frazer 18 got us off to a good start with the rest contributing with 1 or 2 runs. Callum got his first run for the Ramblers. At training this week we practiced our running and calling between wickets and that was done well. With the ball we struggled for control, bowling many wides and no balls, so that is something we need to work on. Ben and Frazer took 2 wickets each plus there was a run out. Callum and Max kept well and Max took a good out field catch. Ethan Wolfe was Man of the Match for his good batting.
