Round 4 – seniors results
The A Grade battled early, but ultimately lost to Port Noarlunga after chasing 213. A strong 3rd wicket partnership between Lee (29) & Haussen (53) provided some hope after a shaky start, but ultimately fell 60 runs short after losing key wickets in the middle order for not many runs. King put up some resistance late with 23. A Grade still sit top with this being their first loss.
Chasing 165 for the win against South Road’s A-grade, G. Handke (14) looked good in his debut opening spot. J. Benson (42) & Rosie (32) put on 38 for the 3rd wicket which was followed up nicely by the partnership between Benson & A. O’Keefe (29) adding a further 68 to the total. N. Work’s first hit for the year was a good one with 32 off 34 balls with he and Vale (13) finishing off the runs putting on 46 to give the Ramblers a 5 wicket victory. That’s 3 on the trot for the Bs and has them 3rd on the ladder.
Defending a very handy 280 against top side Warradale, the bowlers struck early however a 2nd wicket partnership of 70 looked like it was going to be a real contest. Some quality bowling by Brett Chilton (3 wickets), L. Simpson (5 wickets) & Farrell (2 wickets) meant Warradale would lose 9/63 to be all out for 141 in just the 29th over. Captain Strunk asked them to follow-on but unfortunately the double-points for an outright wasn’t to be. Simpson picked up another 2 wickets and at the close of play, Warradale were 5/224. C Grade sit 5th on the table with 2 wins, 2 losses.
Chasing a hefty total of 279 for victory, the young (and young at heart) lads went about it strongly but fell a little short, being 6/215 at stumps. M. Withers was the stand out & wound back the clock with 117 not out. Young lads A. Strauss made a very well compiled 45 and A. Beursch with 17 kept the scoreboard ticking over. With so many youngsters in the side – to make 200 and bat the 60 overs is a great effort. The Development Team currently sits 8th with 1 win, 3 losses.
