Round 5 – week 1
After a hiccup last week; the team came out firing against Keswick at Hawthorndene. A fantastic spell by young left-armer Ben Kanck tore through Keswick with 5/9 off 8 overs with a run-out to boot. J. Ferris chipped in with 2/7 to have the visiting team all out for 58 after just 31 overs.
The Ramblers made quick work of it, putting on 4/110 in 29 overs with A. Lee making a brisk 45; J. Ferris with an even quicker 32 and B. Willson anchoring for 27*. With 12 overs at the opposition; they are now 1/20 in their 2nd dig.
Originally an away game also to Keswick, but with Blackwood High being under water, the game was moved to Weymouth after the D’s opposition forfeited. Keswick won the toss; batted & looked solid at 2/86. Calderbank begun to rip through them however, taking 6/26 off 16.4 overs. Singles to Stanley, Handke & Jones + a run-out saw them make 153.
The Ramblers had to survive a tough 4-overs at the end of the day, finishing up 1/8.
Playing Western Youth @ Cowandilla Primary, Ramblers won the toss and batted first. Openers, A. Strunk (36) & L. Porter (36), got away to get a good start with D. Keese bringing it home with 81*. C. Porter made 29 and S. Brodie helped finish the innings with 18*. After 60 overs, the team scored a healthy 5/257.
Sadly D Grade’s opposition forfeited this game after only having just 3 named players. Not the way anyone wants to get a win.
