Week 4 – wrap-up from day 1

A Grade

The A Grade travelled to Port Noarlunga where a big oval and dead pitch generally supports good batting conditions. Ramblers lost the toss and were sent in to field. Our openers Clarrie Germein and Fabian King (3/71) bowled the best combined opening spell of the season to date with Fabian being rewarded with early wickets. Port Noarlunga were on the back foot but dug in through the middle overs with low scoring and no wickets falling. After tea they began to up the rate and while Matt Potts (4/39) bowled very well to take wickets during the scoring, we let it slip a little to finally bowl them out for 213 in the final over.

B Grade

We went up against South Road this round, a team that were in Section 1 just last year. Jacob Handke was the pick of the bowlers with his maiden senior 5 wicket haul! Another product of our junior program whilst Gary Handke (father) watched on proudly, ready to open the batting for the Bs on Saturday. Stanley, Morey (1 wicket) & K Smith (#1) bowled well but without much luck, with Calderbank (2 wickets) & Rosie (1 wicket) rounding out the day. South Road were all out for 164 in the 2nd last over of the day. On a slow Hawthorndene, it’s a good score, but we’re confident of chasing it down.

C Grade

We won the toss again and elected to bat against the top side Warradale. A chat before the game setting some targets for runs and wickets gave the C grade lads something to aim at. After losing an early wicket, Braden Sadler and Pablo pushed the score to 84 in the 27th over before Braden was run out for 36. Colin Farrell made a quick 24. At 40 overs we were 4 for 131. Our “fill in” player Robbie Jones then made a very quick 44. Pablo top scored on 78 getting out in the 56th over. Tom Donnelly was 23no and Jarrad Thompson 13no taking it to the bowlers in the last 4 overs to push our score to very respectable 9 for 280 at stumps.

D Grade

So it would be fair to say that Saturday on a large fast Fitzroy Oval with a couple of A grade half game players that our development boys had their sternest test.

Josh O’Keefe after having a catch go down off his second ball took a little stick before hitting back with another early wicket. At the other end Emil Nachazel was very good beating the bat of very experienced batsmen numerous times resulting in a well earned wicket. Alex Buersch was again very good chipping in with a wicket from eight overs. Mark Withers used his experience to take wickets and restricted the opposition score. McNicholas was a little wayward but shows much promise and also took a wicket when it was really needed. Zac Howell worked hard and he too joined the wicket takers. New player Alex Strauss who wicket kept for the first 37 overs & came on to bowl, taking a wicket. Another debutant Travis Croft kept for the last 23 overs and did a great job. Whilst it was tough I felt our lads did a great job with 8 of our lads under 16.

We batted for 5 overs and Birthday boys Kev O’Looney (64 years young) & Alex Buersch (16 years old) were tremendous in seeing out the attack for the rest of the day. We’re chasing 278 next week.

Juniors

Under 10 faced Pt Noarlunga gold in this week’s game. The young lads found their confidence with both bat and ball this week walking away with a win – 189 to 82. Each week we are seeing skills and confidence grow.

The under 12 boys played Plympton Footballers. A closely contested game but great bowling and fielding led to a 114 to 106 win. Maiden overs by Jacob and Thomas with catches to Liam, Reuben and Isaac helped seal the win.

The under 14 lads continued their great form with another win, this time agaisnt Happy Valley. The lads are showing fabulous form with all areas of their game. 50plus made by Aaron Lachlan and Huvo and catches to Zane and Lachlan.

Under 16 gold finished their game to Flagstaff Hill, unfortunately with a loss. The lads will be back in the nets this week working hard as we look forward to next week’s game.

Under 16 blue also finished their game to Sheidow Park unfortunately with a loss as well. Playing with only 10, the lads held their heads high and worked hard.

Ramblers juniors are looking for several more lads especially in the 14 to 16 age group to fill in either casually or a permenant basis. If your lad is looking for a positive cricket experience please give a a call we would love to talk to you. Leave a message here and we’ll be in touch.
